The aim of this course is to provide the student with a comprehensive
introduction to the following areas:
Sound Engineering Practices
Music Theory
Music Production
Protools Systems, Reason and Sound Forge
Audio Theory and Principles
Music Technology
Composition
Production Techniques
Sound Design
Remix Techniques
Microphone Technologies and Techniques
Students participating in this course will be expected to achieve the following outcomes:
1) Develop a number of complex musical productions using computer-based technologies.
2) Participate in at least 4 professional client-based recording studio projects during term.
3) Demonstrate a high level of underpinning knowledge
4) Understand the music business infrastructure (Sectors, Roles, Responsibilities etc.)
5) Participate in a number of live music events (performance, promotion or technical role)
6) Analyse music materials
7) Understand the role of audio in various multi-media settings
8) Develop a professional acumen through experience-based projects
9) Develop entrepreneurial skills (freelance, publishing, recording contracts etc.)
Note: Outstanding students normally participate in approx. 30 client-based sessions while in first year. It is also worth noting that some students earn their fees back!!!
These subject areas are delivered through a balanced programme of theory and 'hands-on' implementation.
Additional Fees: Fees include a €1000 deposit which must be paid on application. City and Guilds Level 3 Certificate fees, €400 (payable Feb 10).
